LATE BREAKING NEWS!!!
If you drive by the Alabama Theatre you will see construction going on next door at the old Goldstein Building showing the first phase construction of the new Banquet Hall and Conference Center.
Phase I calls for the new roof which will give us a 16 ft ceiling in the banquet hall. Phase II will be the street level access and elevator. Phase III will not start until June 2007. This will call for the complete demolition of the second floor of the old Goldstein fur storage which has been used for many years as the Alabama Theatre rehearsal hall complex. Our plans are to demolish the entire second floor and install the new HVAC and catering kitchen. The hall should be ready to open in October of 2007, just in time for the holiday rentals. The interior of the hall will look like the Alabama Theatre and will feature two of the five chandeliers from the old Tutwiler Hotel Grand Ballroom.
2007 THEATRE EVENTS
The staff of the Alabama is planning a Valentine’s special on February 14th at 8pm featuring An Affair to Remember, starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Pink champagne will be available at the concession stand and the new Starbucks Café will be open on the mezzanine level. Special romantic music will be provided by the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ and red carpet will be on the sidewalk in front of the theatre.
Tickets are only $6 and are sold at the business office during regular office hours or at the box office beginning one hour before show time.
Mark your calendar for this special event and remember it is at 8PM, so you can take your sweetie to dinner before the show!
