Spring 2005

2004 - A GOOD YEAR FOR THE ALABAMA THEATRE

The number of patrons for all shows, meetings, parties, concerts, weddings, movies and all the other events held at the Alabama totaled 538,000 and the number of events totaled 306. When you look at our web site calendar at www.alabamatheatre.com, all of our events are not listed, only the public events. The Alabama Theatre has over 100 non-theatrical events each year which are primarily corporate functions, weddings/receptions and other functions where there are no tickets sold and attendance is by invitation.

2004 HOLIDAY FILMS

Our audience for the 2004 holiday films this year was spectacular. 3,800 patrons saw White Christmas, we sold out for It's a Wonderful Life. The two new additions to the series, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and the Saturday children's triple feature cartoon matinee were also very successful. The audience total for the week was 9,800. Patrons enjoyed the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ, sing-a-longs, the giant Christmas tree and the children's visit with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Our three organists, Cecil Whitmire, Gary Jones and Stewart Thompson did a great job for great audiences. A good time was had by all who attended and next year will be even more spectacular.

NEW BALLROOM

Because of the large number of catered events held at the Alabama Theatre each year, and the number of request we have for a place to hold pre and post event functions, we have decided to construct a large meeting space which will have a catering kitchen and a place to have a sit down meal or a stand up reception. The total cost of this project with the elevator will cost $250,000, and we hope will be completed late 2005.

NEW PROJECTION EQUIPMENT

Regal Entertainment Group (Regal Cinemas) has agreed to contribute new projection equipment that should be installed by the beginning of February. We will use this for the first time publicly for the showing of the epic film Gods and Generals on January 29. New projectors, new sound and new lenses should make our screen picture not only the biggest but the best and brightest in the city. Thanks to Regal Entertainment Group!

VALENTINE FILMS

We are proud to announce our Valentine Films.

  • Saturday Feb 12 - Love Story with Ryan O Neal and Ali McGraw.
  • Monday Feb 14 - An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

2005 SUMMER FILM SERIES

WE NEED YOUR HELP

It is time to select the films for the 2005 Summer Film series and we need your input. Each year we try to select classic films that will appeal to our patrons and each year our patrons suggest the same good classic films. However, we would like to have a summer series that you would make an effort to attend each week. Please make suggestions for your favorite films and send them to alatheatre@aol.com.
